Big story coming out of the first two rounds of March Madness was with the Tom Izzo incident. If you weren’t able to see the incident then basically he got very angry at a player and people didn’t agree with how he responded. Tom Izzo walked onto the court to confront the player and was yelling at him very aggressively. Some people noted that he had his fist clinched, but never put his hands on the player. Other players such as Cassius Winston help Tom back, and this is very important because Cassius is the teams captain. The story gained traction because some people in the media believe that Tom Izzo is part of the older generation of coaching and there is other ways that are more effective to coach kids today. I believe that side of the story is irrelevant because it based on someone’s opinion and there is a bigger story here.

People saying that Tom Izzo was out of hand during this incident is irrelevant because it’s your opinion. My opinion is that Tom was fine because I played sports all my life and I have had coaches like this. I personally played better when I had coaches like this and I can’t tell you exactly why. Also people that have these types of opinions are typically people that didn’t play sports, and want to compare it to the workforce. Well if your boss yelled at you like Tom did then yes there would be repercussions on the boss, but does your job include competitive sports? Does your job and include blood, sweat, or tears? There isn’t many jobs that include this so if you’re comparing college basketball March Madness to your job then you are a dunce. Finally you can’t compare your job to this incident because you get paid to do your job while these kids are doing this for free and that is the bigger story.

I didn’t write this blog before Michigan State showed their support towards Tom Izzo or whether there was going to be repercussions. That is because Tom Izzo has a job as the head coach at Michigan State, and gets paid very well from them. So if Michigan State didn’t agree with Tom then Tom would’ve faced repercussions, but what if the player didn’t agree with Tom? The only story about the incident that should be told is that college players have no voice or power when it comes to situations like this. Is this why we don’t see professional coaches talk to their players like college coaches? Professional athletes have power because they get paid as much as the coaches or even more. While college athletes don’t get paid at all and are getting assessed their entire career. Not one Michigan State player showed any concern about the incident and even players that played for Izzo in past showed support as Draymond Green. What if there was a player that had a concern? They wouldn’t be able to speak up for themselves or for other teammates. Why is this? Well NCAA is the most corrupt organization and comparable to modern day mafia. NCAA makes so much money off these players, but don’t give them power or a voice to express themselves. That is the only story that should be talked about in this incident and how we find a way to give these Amateur athletes at the voice.

Finally stop saying this generation is soft because this player took this ass chewing, and could have lashed back at the coach. If a coach chews you out then it shows that they care, and want you to improve or do better. A person needs to learn that criticism is it a knock against your character but more of a way to improve yourself. People also need to remember that the coaches job is much more than just teaching X and O’s, but to build these kids to be better men and women for the future. So to all the coaches out there, thank you for making it your career to teach kids the fundamentals of sports but more importantly molding the children of the future.
